It’s good to see responses from BAAWA Sr Mgt. As an audience/spectator I missed Shohel’s song and Shormi vabi’s performance this year. We feel proud to have such singers like Shohel, Ameet, Shawli vabi, Asif Akkas bhai, Yaseen etc. in our small community. When Shohel was singing (may be in 2017) “ঐ দূর আকাশে তারাগুলো আকাশে আকাশে কাটে নি:সঙ্গ একাকী, মাঝে মাঝে স্বপ্নের বেশে স্মৃতিরা এসে করে যায় আমায় বড় এলোমেলো……” That made me nostalgic!
Nice to see these conversations within our Big Family.
It shows, our elder brothers still do care for this Big Family .Sohel, thank you for coming forward with some questions and concerns. There might be many more, who wanted , but decided not to.BAAWA CS did respond to it .Further to that , BAAWA President himself clarified the matter in detail.I think , The CS and her Team tried their level best , to give us an enjoyable ACP and we should appreciate their wholehearted efforts.Faruk , I would love to see you again enjoying the BAAWA programmes.I always feel, We belong to the Big Family and would love to remain in the family.Let’s remain as a Happy Big Family.Hearty regardsM S N Shahid RajooSent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone

It would be good for BAAWA if we could accommodate all the Sohel(s) of our community in the future BAAWA programs based on merits. BAAWA is not growing because it is not engaging the whole community. It is time for new blood in the leadership positions of BAAWA who treat everyone equally including long time members. Many people in the community are strong believers in equal opportunity for all.
There will be no further communications from me on this.

Thanks uncle for your response. It’s frustating that we are bogged down on the same issue but I think I should explain the matter to Sohel one more time.
Sohel, our position still remains same. The key thing to understand here is the discretion. The CSC has been authorised to make decesions in this regard. Every committee is unique and this uniqueness gives us the opportunity to enjoy the programs from different perspectives.
One thing is for sure, no performance is guaranteed – the program theme or logistics will decide what to include or not. For example, we included band performance this year which is normally unusual in the Annual Concert. Again what I am trying to say is that every year is different and the respective committee members are to decide what they want to achieve through all BAAWA events.
We didn’t adopt any new policy this year for ACP – we asked for EOIs in some areas, then contacted few performers based on the program theme and make-up, we tried to introduce couple of new things, also contacted few multicultural groups to highlight our position in the wider community but at the end of the day, it’s the audience call to put the tick mark on the show – good, not up to the mark, could be better etc. etc.
Hope this helps but you can always contact me on 0439974038 to discuss anyway.
Thanks

Hi Sabbir:
This is simply nitpicking! Why is this person doing this? What is he trying to achieve? The response from our CS to his original queries/concerns was clear and more than adequate. Putting together a quality show like ACS is not a trivial thing, and rather than raising flimsy issues, we can only appreciate the amount of dedication and efforts of those delivering it. While I may have witnessed some constructive debates in the BAAWA forum in the past (which are what this forum is for), as a foundation member, I cannot recollect seeing anything like the current one involving ACS in the past. A bit sickening!

Dear Sabbir vai,
Greetings. Appreciate your quick response 😊, l left all the hopes to get a reply though. With due respect I’d like to inform you that, Cultural Secretary in her email on 5/9, mentioned about the standard practice, which I believe every BAAWA CS is communicating the same format for years while emailing. As it did not mention about the following:
1. Whether you followed this standard practice this year.
2. Whether new and well-known performers are selected in the same manner.
3. Had all the performers submitted an EOI and/or participated in the audition?
that is why I tagged it as a “generic reply”. Pardon me if I was wrong.
Moreover, in my email, I tried to help BAAWA by providing some possible options to get selected in BAAWA’s “flagship event like ACP”, so that it could be eady for someone to just pick one and reply. We all know that, when we are given choices to pick an option, we get the best suitable (or most positive) option as well as the least suitable (or most negative) option. For example, (fully satisfied/satisfied/neither satisfied nor dissatisfied/dissatisfied/fully dissatisfied) etc. Mentioning “keep good relationship with CSC members and/or the CS” was the worst possible (most negative) option mentioned. It’s a matter of regret that you have chosen that as a reason for not responding to my query.
As a member of the community I wanted to be sure, how things work in a “flagship event like ACP” dealt by BAAWA and how any “new” or “well-known” performers should act to get selected (courtesy to some people, who think I am famous in Perth and BAAWA, so they ask me these questions 😔). If you believe, I don’t have any right to ask BAAWA, please accept my apology as a senior in both Perth community and BUET.

Nothing has been taken personally but It’s also a matter of regret when answers given to the queries are considered as ‘generic reply’. And things get invented like ‘keep good relationship with CSC members and/or CS’. The Cultural Secretary’s reply on 5/9 couldn’t be any more clearer especially this part:
“the cultural subcommittee (CSC) members finalised the items, performers and setup of the program based on the expressions of interest, auditions, past performances, program theme etc. etc. Given ACP is the flagship event of BAAWA, it was entirely within CSC’s discretion to take any decision in relation to the event as deemed appropriate. The EOI email sent on 10th of June had clearly stated that.”

To Whom It May Concern
================
Hello,
As I haven’t received a response from any BAAWA responsible person in 11 days, I assume that there is no “standard practice in place for selection” and/or “best practice for selection had not been followed”.
Thus they don’t have anything to say:
1. to defend their action.
2. to guide new/well-known performers so that they can perform in BAAWA concert in future.
It’s a matter of regret that, living in Australia, we couldn’t adopt Australian values in terms of honesty, transparency and accountability. It was a simple query made by a member of the community!
Whatever, I leave this matter here and hope for a better future. Please don’t take anything personally.
Thanks and best regards,
Sohel

Hello,
Thanks for your thoughtful but generic reply. Pardon me, I was looking for a bit more specific information. For example if someone new wants to perform, what he needs to do. Does he need to:
1. submit expression of interest?
2. participate in audition? and then CSC will take decision. Or does he need to
3. keep good relationship with CSC members and/or CS?
If any well-known performer wants to perform what does he or she need to do?
1. Submit expression of interest
2. take part in audition
3. keep good relationship with CSC members and/CS
4. all of the above or
5. any of the above.
Even to be more specific as I can see in your email that, all the performers are famous and well known, did they also need to:
1. submit expression of interest
2. take part in the audition
3. keep good relationship with CSC members and/CS.
I hope its not a big ask. Appreciate your response, which will help some performers to add values to BAAWA concert in future.
Thanks n Regards,

Hi there,
Thanks for your queries. We can again proudly affirm that BAAWA management is always transparent and accountable. There is no “I” or “me” in BAAWA. As a matter of fact, a community organisation like BAAWA will not be able to sustain for long if it becomes a closed/secret or exclusive organisation. We work as a team and in this particular instance, the cultural subcommittee (CSC) members finalised the items, performers and setup of the program based on the expressions of interest, auditions, past performances, program theme etc. etc. Given ACP is the flagship event of BAAWA, it was entirely within CSC’s discretion to take any decision in relation to the event as deemed appropriate. Congratulations!
By the way, just a little query: how did you choose singers/performers? Did everyone send an “Expression of Interest”? Or, do you think, they are the best in the community? Just wondering, as we all know BAAWA management is transparent and accountable.
