Invitation of expression of interest to enrol prospective students in Pathshala Bangla School
Dear all,
As you know, the Bangladesh Australia Association of Western Australia (BAAWA) established Pathshala Bangla School (PBS) in 2010 with the aim of providing lessons in Bangla language and numeracy skills to children of Bangla-speaking communities in Perth. It is managed by the Pathshala Bangla School Management Committee (PBSMC) which is drawn from parents, volunteer teachers, community members, and BAAWA EC
The school curriculum has been significantly overhauled and streamlined during 2017 to meet the demand of the parents with the creation of three standardised levels of study plans: beginner, intermediate and advanced. It was possible due to the untiring and devoted efforts of our volunteer teachers namely, Mr Kamrul Ahmed, Ms Sharmistha Saha, Ms Anu Sharma and Ms Sharifa Tusnim. Under the new curriculum, at the beginning of each term, a student will be allocated to a particular level of study plan based on his/her skill level, which they are expected to complete over the course of the term. Thus, at this rate, it would take a student three years to complete all three levels.
Our volunteer teachers have all won much appreciation and praise from parents and students for their dedication and hard work. The Registrar, Mr Mafizul Islam plays a vital role in the running of the school, as he maintains school records and finances, books classroom venues, sends out official correspondences to parents, and carries out other essential administrative work.
The school runs in parallel to the Western Australia State Primary School calendar, with four terms every year. Classes are held at the Canning Vale Community Centre every Sunday between 3 to 5 pm. In 2017, 21 students were enrolled.
The proposed School operates on its own income generated through tuition fees from the students and through any other fund from external sources such as the Office of Multicultural Interest. The school has continued without any failure to maintain its self-funding status. It charges a fee of $50 per term per student, with siblings receiving a 20% discount, to cover running costs such as class room hire etc.
Among other significant activities of the school, the school children take active part in various cultural program organised by BAAWA such as the Victory Day (16 December), the International Mother Language Day (21 February), Banglar Mela (Pahela Boishak) and BAAWA Annual Concert. These activities by the school children greatly assist them to keep in touch with our national pride, history, tradition and culture.
On behalf of the Management Committee of PBS, I would like to appeal to my fellow Bangladeshi community members to come forward and support the school to the best of your capacity. I would especially like to request parents of younger children to enrol their children in PBS. I am pleased to be able to say that PBS is well-equipped with highly educated volunteer teachers, an experienced management committee and the necessary teaching resources and lesson plans to be able to provide the children in our community with an excellent educational experience.
If you wish to enrol your children at PBS, please contact the registrar of the School Mr Mafizul Islam on 0427420165 or email to him at Mafizul Islam Mafizul.Islam@watercorporation.com.au. An enrolment form is attached for your convenience.
PBS is re-opening on this Sunday at usual venue and time 06 May and you enrol your children on that day. Our Registrar will be more than happy to assist you in this regard.
With kind regards.
Abu Siddique
