Assalamu’Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wabarakatu
Dear Kewdale Parents / Guardians
We have received a notice from the Australian Human Rights Commission that they are conducting a survey for Australian Muslims. Please see below message from the Human Rights commissioner and follow the instructions to be a part of this survey.
The Commissioner, Mr Chin Tan is leading the Sharing the stories of Australian Muslims project for the Australian Human Rights Commission. This project was announced by the Commissioner in the aftermath of the tragedy in Christchurch. It aims to hear, record and share the views, opinions and experiences of Australian Muslims and identify their challenges, priorities and aspirations.
Below, you can find key information about the purpose of the project and then the survey link. Why is the project important? One of the project’s objectives is to build robust intelligence on Islamophobia and race hate to inform the Commissioner’s work in promoting social cohesion and providing evidence for change. The project also represents an opportunity to tell a national race hate and Islamophobia story for the first time, from the point of view of those who are usually on the receiving end of racism, racial discrimination and Islamophobia. The Commissioner also hopes the project will be an opportunity for the Australian Muslim community to identify its strengths and suggest ways to improve social cohesion.
How will the project work? As part of the project, the Commission has distributed a survey asking Australian Muslims to complete it. The data and information collected from the survey will be combined with information collected in national consultations being held by the Race Discrimination Commissioner in major centres across Australia. This data, intelligence and information will create a picture of Australian Muslims’ challenges, priorities and aspirations. More information about the project can be found on the project page on the Commission’s website.
What does the survey look like? The survey is being conducted by Quantum Market Research for the Australian Human Rights Commission. Quantum is an accredited, independent market and social research agency (https://qmr.com.au/). All responses to the survey will be anonymous and confidential. The survey will be available in English and three other languages (Dari, Urdu and Arabic). How can you support the project? As an important stakeholder, the Commissioner would value your support in sharing the survey with your networks and encouraging members of the Australian Muslim community to complete it. It is crucial that the Commission collects as much information from as many Australian Muslims as possible. The survey is a great opportunity for people to easily take part in this important project and give vital information that will help the Commissioner share the stories of Australian Muslims.
Please share the below link to the survey with your colleagues, members / affiliates, contacts and networks and encourage them to complete and share the survey. It is available in English, Arabic, Urdu and Dari.
Please complete the survey here: https://tinyurl.com/o40ozmus
The survey will build robust national intelligence on Islamophobia, race hate and discrimination. It will also help identify the community strengths and concerns of Australian Muslims, as well as the factors that contribute to our social cohesion and inclusion.
Thank you for your support in promoting and sharing the survey.
Kind Regards,
Australian Islamic College
