Subject: Important Notice for the second special flight to Bangladesh.
To: Tahleel Dilwar Moon <tahleel.moon@mofa.gov.bd>
Dear All,
You are aware of the successful operation of the first non-scheduled flight on 8th May 2020 which carried 157 Bangladeshis from Melbourne to Dhaka. COVID-19 situation is getting better in some parts of the world while it is still worsening in other parts.
At this situation, while we are exploring the possibility of chartering another flight, this time from Sydney, sometimes in the second week of June, we are receiving unconfirmed information on Biman, Bangladesh Airlines commencing domestic and international operation soon. Even if Biman does not operate but Dhaka’s sky is announced open for other operators, the aviation scenario will change dramatically. Similar changes may happen for airports known as transit hubs (such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur , Bangkok, Doha, Dubai ). Need for special flights may thus change significantly.
It is our presumption that a good number of Bangladeshis are stranded here for a few months and are willing to go back home. Hundreds have done registration at the High Commission’s website (Needs Assessment template under COVID-19 Update). But we need further clarity on demand. Those who have not registered at the “Needs Assessment” template of the High Commission’s website (www.bhcanberra.com), please do so. The High Commission will not take responsibility for unregistered citizens.
At this stage, we have had some preliminary discussion with Sri Lankan Airlines for a special flight on 13 June 2020. If we have a minimum confirmed 150 passengers, we will seek to charter a flight. Please click on the following link to express your intention to take the special flight on 13 June 2020.
