Hemp VS Marijuana
Hemp belongs to the family Cannabinaceae (genus Cannabis species sativa). Industrial hemp (IH) is a race of C. sativa L. that has low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol(THC) the psychoactive constituent of marijuana and higher levels of cannabidiol (CBD). This has no illicit effect.
Industrial hemp is completely different from Marijuana in its function, cultivation and application. THC level less than 1 %.
IH is often grown for grain and fibre, each having a multitude of uses.
Hemp seed is used for bread, cereal, milk/diary products, fuel, lubricants, ink, varnish, paint, body products, cosmetics, animal food and flours, protein powder and so on.healthy dietary supplements, skin products, clothing and accessories.
Hemp stalk is used for rope, netting, canvas, carpet, clothes, shoes, bags, biofuel/ethanol, pape products, cardboard, animal bedding, mulch, chemical absorbant, insulation, hempcrete and so on.
Marijuana : As it is widely known, is used for medicinal or recreational purposes. Marijuana races have THC levels between 3 and 30%. It has psychoactive effect.
IH has been grown in Western Australia (WA) for many years on a small scale. Due to recent changes in food standards and regulations there has been considerable interest from growers, industry and government to develop industrial hemp production in WA.
