Free, fun physical activity program for South Asian mothers and their children
Professor Jaya Dantas, Prof Nikos Ntoumanis and a research team from Curtin University have developed a physical activity program for South Asian mothers and their primary school-aged children in consultation with women from the South Asian Community.
The South Asian Mothers and children Being Active (SAMBA) project is a FREE 10-session physical activity program for South Asian mothers and their children. Each week, mothers and children with attend one 45 minute physical activity session + a free 30 minute education session. The session will include activities such as dance, balance, strength training, yoga, and other led by qualified female instructors, to help mothers and children become and stay more active. Free education material and nutritional snacks will be provided.
SAMBA will be held at the Herb Graham Recreational Centre in Mirrabooka. These sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2.30pm – 4pm, starting from January 2020. SAMBA will also be held at Mandala Hall in Bateman. These sessions will take place on Saturday afternoons from 3.30pm – 5pm, starting from February 2020.
