The Australian High Commission in Bangladesh, in conjunction with Sri Lankan Airlines is pleased to announce that another flight may be arranged to take Australians home from Bangladesh.
This is a special flight from Dhaka to Colombo that will connect to a commercial flight from Colombo to Melbourne.
This flight requires a minimum of 120 full ticket paying passengers to go ahead.
FLIGHT DETAILS
Sri Lankan Airlines may operate a special flight from Dhaka International Airport on Saturday 13 June 2020.
This flight is only for Australian citizens and those that already have a permanent Australian visa; and their spouse/de facto partner, legal guardian or children already holding an Australian visa and Australian travel exemption.
FLIGHT SCHEDULE
· Depart Dhaka:
Saturday 13 June (8:50pm)
· Arrive Melbourne:
Sunday 14 June (3:40pm)
The flight will stop in Colombo for two hours to transition into a commercial flight from Colombo to Melbourne.
TICKET PRICES (US Dollars)
· Economy (per passenger): US$1250
· Business (per passenger): US$3250
Luggage allowance is 30kg per passenger in Economy class and 40kg per passenger in Business class..
The ticket price for infants aged under 2 years old on 13 June will be US$120. Infants will not be allocated a seat.
There are no discounts for children aged 2 years and above.
Please note that ticket prices on this flight are slightly lower than those for the second flight as we will match the special flight from Dhaka to Colombo with a purely commercial flight from Colombo to Melbourne.
The actual cost of the ticket in Australian dollars is subject to your bank’s currency exchange rate on the day you make the purchase.
HOW TO BOOK
Sri Lankan Airlines requires a minimum number of 120 passengers (adults and children over the age of 2 years) on this flight for it to go ahead. If it does not meet this passenger requirement, the flight will be cancelled.
Ticket payments will be by credit/debit card.
1. If this is the first time you are expressing interest in a third flight, please email us the following information (to consular.dhaka@dfat.gov.au) within the next 24 hours:
- A clear photograph of your passport biodata page
- If you hold an Australian permanent visa, a copy of your visa grant letter that clearly shows your visa type and date of expiry
- If you need a travel exemption to enter Australia, evidence that this has been approved/granted by the Australian Border Force.
- Let us know the telephone number that Sri Lankan Airlines should use to call you to make your payment for this flight. Calls will be made from the Sri Lankan Airlines Head Office in Colombo.
2. If you have already sent us the above information and are still interested in this flight, you do not need to do anything more. Please do not send us your registration or documentation again as this will delay our tickets processes.
3. If you have already sent us these documents, but are no longer interested in this flight, please email us at consular.dhaka@dfat.gov.au and let us know within the next 24 hours, as we will allocate your seat to another Australian on the waiting list.
DHAKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
You will need to make your own transport arrangements to Dhaka International Airport.
Confirmed passengers will receive a travel facilitation letter to present to authorities at checkpoints.
You will need to be at the airport at least five (5) hours before the scheduled departure time.
This means that you need to be at the airport by 3:50pm on Saturday 13 June.
Please ensure you have a face mask as all passengers are required to wear a mask while inside the terminal and during the flight. Additional PPE is welcome.
CLEARANCE FOR TRAVEL TO AUSTRALIA
To travel on this flight you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen usually resident in Australia, or an immediate family member of a citizen or permanent resident.
For the purpose of obtaining an exemption to the travel ban, immediate family member is considered to be:
· a spouse
· a de facto partner
· a dependent child/ren
· a legal guardian.
Further information on how to apply for an exemption for immediate family members can be found here. You must have an approved exemption prior to attempting to travel to Australia.
All travellers returning to Australia, regardless of their nationality or where they are coming from must complete a mandatory 14-day period of quarantine at a designated facility at their port of entry.
You will be directed to facility (for example, a hotel) and required to stay there for 14 days before you can complete any onward travel or return to your home.
During the quarantine period, accommodation, along with food, water and any medical support will be provided by the Australian Government.
You will not need to pay for this. Family groups will be accommodated together.
As this flight will land in Melbourne, all passengers will need to undertake their period of quarantine in Melbourne, before you can go home (regardless of whether you live in Victoria or another State or Territory).

AUSTRALIAN DOMESTIC TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Once you have completed the 14-day mandatory period of quarantine, you will be free to make your own arrangements to travel to the State or Territory you usually live in.
