Dear Community Members
The most anticipated and biggest BAAWA event of the year is now just two sleeps away! The sheer size of the new venue with a combination of undercover and outdoor areas, is the added attraction of this year’s Mela and simply worth exploring! Lots of hard work and planning have gone behind the scene to prepare this venue so it can be used by future BAAWA committees for many years to come!
The weather forecast is predicting light afternoon and evening showers which should be the least concern. Pls arrive before the start of Mongol Shobhajatra (10:45 am) as we don’t want to see thin presence in front of the invited guests. Let me explain that bit more – first time in the history of our community, we have received a message from the sitting PM of Australia wishing his best to celebrate the Bengali new year. And if we fail to come together during this celebration because of our personal commitments/engagements…… the message we will be spreading across, wouldn’t be a positive one for sure!
BAAWA CS has requested everyone to wear red and white Saree/Panjabi, hope you would be able to find one in your wardrobe (if not, just dress as you like)!
Mela Convenor and BAAWA GS have already advised you on the Mela protocols and attractions, attached below now is the detailed site plan. The main entry/exit is via Warton Road, alternatively you can use Ranford Road but pls park your car only in the yellow shaded areas. Toilets are located behind the stage in the main building but there would also be 3 portable toilets close to the main arena. Pls make sure you carry enough cash to avail all the great offers from a number of food and non-food stalls as there is no ATM or cash-out facility in the venue (some stalls may accept card payments). By the way, food stall owners have confirmed they will only sell halal items from their stalls.
Look forward to see you all.
Sabbir Hussain
President, BAAWA
