Subject: Re: [perthbashi] Covid 19 Community Support Initiative by IPDCDear Perthbashi,
Assalamu-alaikum.
We are indeed sorry to see that our COVID 19 help appeal has created such an unwanted controversy. Our experiences show that many of our wider community members don’t do IPDC but like to join with our social welfare activities or activities related to Armadale Masjid. For example, last one year, IPDC has been conducting a homeless food run porgram. Every Saturday night, our volunteers go to Northbridge/City area and distribute food and water among the homeless. We have only been able to conduct this food run, because many brothers and sisters of our community supported us with their generous food supplies. When we go out Saturday night, many Australian ask us why we are doing this. Our response is “Charity is an important part of our religion”.
Regarding the current controversy, we think that everyone is entitled to form and express his/her own opinion. We don’t like to argue with that. As for IPDC, it is an ACNC registered not-for-profit community organization. Our main goal is to create a positive environment so that our children can get our religious and cultural values, as well as our wider Australian community feels that we care for them in their needs. IPDC has no formal and informal relationship with any political and/or non-political organization in Bangladesh. Like all other Bangladeshis, all IPDC brothers and sisters have their own opinion and like/dislike about Bangladeshi politics. IPDC has nothing to do with someone’s personal political views and choices.
We conduct many activities including weekly “Islamic Alochona”, monthly family gathering in the Armadale Masjid and other places. All our programs are open to all. Please come to our program and listen to what we say and see what we do and, form your own informed opinion. You don’t need to be convinced by anyone else, not even by any IPDC brother or sister.
Finally, if you want to help us in our COVID 19 endeavour, most welcome. If you don’t like our appeal, is also fine, but what is not fine is naming and shaming each other. We sincerely hope this will end the controversies.
Best regards
Shams

Dear All,
Let us show some maturity and stop all these debate right now.
In an open email platform like Perthbashi, everyone can practice their freedom of speech (with of course some common sense by not circulating any hatred and personally attacking emails). There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself, your ideas and ideals, but one should maintain minimum courtesy and show due respect to the member of this recipient group. We have subscribers from different religions, age group and profession. We have subscribers like Hon. Counsel General and representatives from Bangladesh High Commission. This doesn’t mean that you cannot express freely, but imagine yourself in a podium, with all these faces (of your friends, family etc as well as not-so-known faces) and then express yourself with a little bit of articulation. That’s all I would request you all to practice when you communicate in any public forum…
Please remember, differences of opinion will always be there, and that’s a good thing – but we must learn to disagree better. There is no winner or looser in a debate like this. In my humble opinion, if we keep debating like this, eventually we will all loose (eg, friendship, communal harmony etc), and if we stop right now, we will all win.
Please stop further emails on this topic, show your maturity, and practice mutual respect in your correspondence. Please understand that you cannot control anyone or anyone’s action or a situation, but you can only control your own response, and that’s all I request you to remember – just stop writing impulsive emails, take a break, take a deep breath and ask yourself before sending your next email – is it really necessary to send this email and let the entire community know your personal feelings/opinion?
Stay safe everyone. Stay blessed.
Best wishes,

Well said Sabbir Bhai.
It is a great opportunity for IPDC to declare whether they are associated with Jamat-e-Islami or not? I am super keen to know their answer to this.
Also, a humble opinion to Faruk bhai- the definition of ‘community’ in text book or Wikipedia is far different than what we call community in real life. Same applies to your ‘citizenship’ definition.
Similar to Sabbir bhai- I have experienced Nasim bhai and his family’s contribution to this Perth community. Even though they are not in Perth temporarily, they will be part of our community like the rest of us who know them well!

Hi Everyone,
As an ex Perth resident ( but like Nasim vai very attached to it) its really sad to see all this argument.
First of all thanks to IPDC for taking such a great step to help other. Its a great initiative.
I really wish Nasim vai isnt attacked personally regarding this matter as he has not spoken about any single person or named names, his concerns were regarding an organization.
I personally understand Nasim vais concern as me and my family have been very lucky to be associated with him socially and a lot of his friends. Nasim vai and Mimi vabi has always welcomed us and others with welcome arms and made us feel at home and Perth as a city would not mean anything to us if not for people like Nasim vai and others. So, those of us who know Nasim vai, know very well why our community means so much to him and vabi.
If Nasim Vai’s comment regarding IPDC is wrong, please those who are associated with IPDC, please stand up for your group and deny Nasim Vais comments..
If you are not part of Jamat e Islami, just say you are not, instead of accusing him personally.
If you are a part of Jamat e Islami, just say you are and then people can decide whether they want to donate or not.
Or third option could be like Israels answer to Nuclear Weapons….they neither accept nor deny they have any. such weapons, and people can decide whether to donate or not.If Nasim Vai or anyone said something about me which was not true, I think I will definitely stand up for myself and deny it and people can decide who they want to believe, thats not my concern but I will not let it pass
I believe we should not be afraid of the truth and express it to the best of our ability.
Also, to attack Nasim Vai personally and saying he has no right to speak about his concerns in Perth is as illogical as saying no Muslims should speak about Palestine as they are not Palestinian.
I am not going to educate anyone from IPDC about what Islam says about slandering another human being as I am sure they are much more educated then me…
I didn’t see Nasim Vai attack anyone peersonally (or may have missed it) but if IPDC is requesting for donation then the public has right to know exactly how they are associated with other groups or maybe they are not.
Again, this is not to offend anyone, I have nothing against IPDC or any other group for that matter. I am just hoping that IPDC will answer if they are associated with Jamat e Islami or not, that’s all and not slander someone for his or her concerns.
Thanks
Sabbir

I know that Nasim bhai and his family lived here in Perth for almost 20 years. Though they are away for some time now, they visit Perth frequently because of their love and attachment to this community. They have their house in Perth and would love to come back and live here again with this wonderful community. Though away from Perth temporarily, I know their heart is in Perth more than in any other place.

Mr Ahmed,
May ask you who gave you the right to decide who should or should not be the part of the community in Perth. Looks like you are the vocal and representing yourself for IPDC only. Your own version of defining the criteria is not the standard determining who should be still part of the community or not.. This is not your para or moholla from where you came from. This is very offensive statement for which you should beg apology. You have no idea still our Perth community have close contact with us and seek advice from Nasim on various occasion and we are away doesn’t mean we are disconnected.
Thanks everyone who have called since yesterday and showing their support and you are regarded as the main st critical and difficult person.
Thanks,
Mimi

Dear Nasim Bhai,
Assalmu Alaikum.
Being part of a country is governed by it’s citizenship law – we are still Bangladeshi because the country allows dual citizenship. Being part of a local community is based on residing in a locality – “A community has been defined as a group of interacting people living in a common location”.
It’s great to keep contacts with past community because of emotional attachment, it’s not appropriate to interfere their affair though.. That’s all I wanted to say bhai.
You are always welcome to return to this great place – we surely will have good time again.
All the best to you and your family.

Dear All
I had no intention to send another email until I see a formal response from IPDC. But things are getting bit ugly and going in to different directions……….
Even our Shahin Bhai recommended – “if we leave WA, we are not part of it anyway and ….“. So we all left Bangladesh, can we say we are not part of Bangladesh anyone? What an absurd hypothesis.
My very simple expectation was – IPDC would say ‘we have no link with any Bangladeshi political party’. End of conversation.
However, the discussion turns to community divide, harmony and so on. I am not sure whether anyone even think – have we ever seen any IPDC member any a dinner party or in a big Bangladeshi community event? Until 2015 I did not meet any IPDC member In any such event. Even I did not hear the Head of IPDC WA chapter at that time said Assalamualaikum to greet any Bangladeshi community members in public places. These people have been working in isolation for years and no one is responsible for that. It’s been their choice.
In my view, virtual presence on the Perthbashi discussion group will not make them part of the bigger family.
Finally, I like to say again, please do not take my words personally.
Keep well and stay safe.
Regards
Nasim
