NAIDOC stands for the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee and NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, cultures and communities and their contribution to modern Australia. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. This year's NAIDOC Week will be held nationally from Sunday 8 July and continue through to Sunday 15 July. This year's NAIDOC, under the theme – Because of her, we can!, will celebrate the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make – to our communities, families, history and nation.
